Background to the Course

IOSH is Europe’s leading professional body for Health and Safety practitioners. The Institute is dedicated to improving the safety, health and welfare of people at work and those affected by work activities. This assessed course is designed primarily for managers and supervisors who need to manage safety. This course covers topics necessary to enable delegates to manage safety in compliance with health and safety legislation, company policy and contract requirements.

Who Should Attend?

Managers, supervisors, SHE advisors, and others with responsibility for, or significant involvement in, workplace safety. This course substantially covers the health and safety knowledge requirements for the NVQ in Health, Safety and Environmental Management in Quarries at levels 3, 4 and 5 and is complemented by EPIC Understanding the Quarries Regulations 1999. It is, therefore, suitable for those needing to prepare for the NVQ, or who are working towards it.

Course Objectives

To ensure that occupational health and safety requirements are appreciated by line managers, supervisors and SHE advisors and to enable them to review their own company or departmental systems for safety and to use them effectively, or to improve them by the introduction of new controls or implementing changes to improve safety in the workplace.

Course Structure and Delivery Methods

The course comprises of lectures, discussions and group exercises. Assessment is by means of a written multiple-choice test and a practical workplace project. EPIC offers several delivery options, including a 4-day course with post-course workplace project, a 5-day course with in-course workplace project and several modular options, to meet the requirements of most companies.
