Course Summary:
International Professional Groomers have launched a revolutionary new qualification for the pet grooming professional. The course is ideal if you want to commence working in the dog grooming industry and are keen to learn the skills you need to work under supervision in a dog grooming salon. The course is run within the commercial salon at the College.
Entry requirements
You should have a keen interest in dogs.
You will be required to work in the commercial dog grooming salon on client dogs so that you gain a realistic experience of a working salon. If you wish, you are able to source your own suitable range of fully vaccinated dogs and book them into the salon at a charge of £10 per dog.

How will I be assessed?
Formal assessments take place at the end of the course and are in the form of one written exam and one practical exam for the Salon Details certification.
There may be an opportunity, if you wish, to have a demonstration day prior to your exam for extra preparation. There will be a fee for this - the exact amount is to be confirmed.
Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?
Learners must wear the Derby College salon uniform, for which you must pay at enrolment. You are also required to purchase your own scissor set which is ordered by the College at the cost of approximately £135: this is also payable on enrolment.
You need to wear sensible footwear and trousers/jeans. The College will provide grooming equipment to be used while you are on the course.
Registration with IPG, which you should do yourself, is at a cost of approximately £62.00.
What can I do after this course?
You may wish to participate in further training that the College offers to enhance your grooming skills. There will be an opportunity to take further examinations to aim towards becoming an International Certified Master Groomer (ICMG).
