The ironer in dry cleaners and industrial laundries is the professional figure who deals with the ironing and folding of previously washed laundry items, destined for hospitals, companies, hotels where the laundry company he works for operates. She is mainly employed in linen ironing operations in the hotel and catering sector, i.e. mainly tablecloths and sheets, using industrial-level machinery such as ironers and steam ironers. In the laundries she takes care of ironing dry-cleaned clothes with an iron and a mannequin. In the domestic environment, especially in large cities, the figure of the ironer for private individuals is making a comeback, both at home and at their residence. In the first case he goes to the customers and proceeds to iron in their home, normally using the customer's equipment. In the second case, however, he collects the customer's garments, or has them delivered, and returns them ironed after a set time. The home ironer, also called ironing assistant, has the task of taking care of the ironing and laundry of the family laundry. Typically this is a person with many years of experience in the ironing field, able to perform ironing operations without running the risk of clothing being damaged by high temperatures. The duties of the ironer can sometimes also be integrated into the work of the maid, who more generally takes care of the cleaning and care of the house, including the arrangement of the rooms, both internal and external. The professional ironer goes home when called, in the shortest possible time, or by agreeing on predefined days and times. The home ironer normally has a relationship with those who manage the house, who can be the owner as well as the housekeeper or possibly other service staff, so that all the needs and specificities related to washing and ironing laundry are clear when tackling the job.
