IT Application Specialist Intermediate Apprenticeship

The IT Application Specialist Intermediate Apprenticeship course is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to work within an IT environment. Learning through practical and theory sessions at College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve the IT Application Specialist Apprenticeship.

What will I learn?
IT Application Specialist Intermediate Apprenticeship course content

QCF Level 2 Diploma. Core units:

• Understanding the Potential of IT


• Improving Productivity Using IT


• Developing Personal and Team Effectiveness

Optional units include:

• Setting Up an IT system


• IT Communication Fundamentals


• Using the Internet and Email


• IT Software Fundamentals

As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths, and Level 2 in ICT.

What are the entry requirements?

Functional Skills Level 1, or 3 GCSEs (grades A*- C) including English and Maths. Students should have a strong interest in the area of ICT and be able to discuss why they wish to do this. They need to be committed to study and be responsible for their own learning. It is necessary to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy. Students on this course are required to be employed in a suitable work placement, where they are using a variety of IT applications, daily.

What can I do next?

Career pathways may include roles such as website technician, data administrator or digital assistant.

Considering an apprenticeship?
Many young people look to an apprenticeship to gain valuable skills directly in the workplace.
You can apply for both an apprenticeship, and a full-time course as your back up,
but note that you will need to do some research to find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice
if you do not already have one.

If you are applying for an apprenticeship please use the application form above,
ensuring you complete section 4 of the form. In order to start your apprenticeship you must have an employer
ready to complete your apprenticeship with.
