Course programme
This programme will introduce you to Italian at beginners’ level and is designed for those who have had no previous or little contact with the language. If you already have some knowledge of the language, you may wish to apply for the advanced programme BA Italian A.
You’ll develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in Italian in your first two years, while selecting modules introducing you to different elements of Italian civilisation, from Medieval and Renaissance Italy to contemporary Italian literature, cinema, culture and history. Through these modules you’ll develop language skills and cultural awareness that you can really cultivate in your third year, which is spent working or studying in Italy.
When you return to Leeds for your final year, you’ll study advanced language modules to refine your skills, while exploring more topics that interest you, such as contemporary literature, the history of the Italian language, Italian cinema or fashion, design, and specialised uses of Italian for marketing and business purposes.
This will help you to develop critical and analytical skills while conducting independent research – skills that you can showcase when you complete an undergraduate dissertation.
