The Italian Studies section of the Romance Languages Department offers programs in language, literature, film, linguistics, cultural studies and civilization for students with or without a background in Italian. At the core of this program is the study of the Italian language, understood both in the narrow sense of verbal communication, but also in the larger sense of textual messages: literary, cinematic, historical, art-historical, and mass-cultural.

Italian History on Screen: How Movies Tell the Story of Italy
No more than 3 courses may be taken in English. No more than 3 courses may be taken abroad. At least 1 of the 4 electives must be taught in
Italian at the 300-level. The remaining 3 courses should be chosen in related fields sponsored through Comparative Literature, Cinema Studies,
departments affiliated with the Center for Italian Studies, or other offerings in humanities and social sciences as appropriate.
