OVERVIEW

If you are interested in becoming a professional massage therapist inorder to gain the full diploma all three courses are required. A&P, unit 22 and Holistic Massage. This course has been planned to assume that you will have no prior knowledge of the subject and therefore has no pre entry requirements. Pre course reading will be suggested from a list of recommended books.

The body is a most fascinating and complex piece of 'machinery' and no 'machine'is quite the same as the next. That is why it is essential for any Complementary Health practitioner to have a sound knowledge of the structures, functions and diseases and conditions that can occur. Therefore any therapists in the area of complementary studies needs to have Anatomy & Physiology as part of their training, this forms the foundation for all further complementary therapies.

To be able to understand the basic workings of the body gives the therapist the knowledge of the body's ability to regenerate cells and tissues after damage, maintaining homeostasis to enable the workings of the systems to function effectively. The body is also effected by emotions, stress that happens throughout daily life and can have a profound effect on the physiological workings of the body. As a therapist it is essential there is acknowledgment of the effects that stress can have on the systems and the inter-relationships that exist between them.

Anatomy is the study of the structure of the body and Physiology is the internal functions of the body. The body is complex and this course has been designed to enable the complete novice to feel comfortable with the terminology,to be able to understand and feel confident with the new knowledge. At the end of this course you will be able to describe cell parts and their functions , through to the main systems, their functions and inter relationships.
