Japanese Woodblock Printing
Northern Print is pleased to bring Edinburgh-based artist Paul Furneaux back to the North East to share his skills in Japanese woodblock printing. Japanese woodblocks have a luminosity of colour and are printed by hand using waterbased inks making it a wonderful process for those who don’t have easy access to a press. This is a rare opportunity to learn this process from someone who trained in Japan. Paul was a Mombusho Scholar and studied at Tama Art University, Tokyo. Paul has a unique and painterly approach to the technique and encourages participants to find their own way of working once they have learned the basics. You will learn how to carve your own woodblock and be able to print in colour on Japanese paper, producing a range of prints. Specialist materials will be available to purchase at the end of the day.
