History
JEMMA KIDD I started out in fashion as a model, but I was never really comfortable - unlike my little sister! When I discovered what it was like being on the other end of the brush, I knew I'd found the right career.
I was lucky to work as assistant to make-up guru, Mary Greenwell. She's an inspirational teacher and also a perfectionist; striving to always do better was the best training I could have received. I assisted her for five years and was then spotted by Premier Hair & Make Up Agency and taken on their books in 1999.
Since then I've worked with many designers: Jasper Conran, Philip Treacy and Scott Henshall to name a few. Many photographers also: David Bailey, Lord Litchfield, Elaine Constantine. it's a long list. My make up has been used on covers of magazines like Vogue and Elle both here and in New York and Milan.
I love what I do. Every face is unique, so my job is different every single day. I suppose I'm known for a natural and radiant style of make up; revealing women's inner beauty is what I believe make up should do.
Perhaps that's why I'm just as proud of the School and the achievements of our students as I am of doing a big catwalk show. Launching the school and launching my own range are both part of how passionately I believe in women learning all about make-up, professional techniques and having confidence.
Advantages of studying here
The power of individual attention The classes are run throughout the year but are deliberately kept small - no more than twelve students - in order to maximise the learning potential and learning outcomes. This allows for plenty of attention and one-to-one focus from specially trained educators.
Contemporary Professional educators The portfolio of consumer and professional courses are taught by a hand selected team of make-up industry professionals, all vetted by Jemma Kidd . This means students receive meticulous teaching on technical creative techniques and skills, and also benefit from their contacts and commercial understanding as working artists.
A head start Students who do well showing both talent and dedication are often booked directly by Jemma as assistants, and are represented by the academy. The academy then acts more like a mentor and is committed to career development rather than a traditional training ground.
Professional kits and discounts Starting out in the industry and building your professional kit can be a very daunting task, and it can also be very expensive. To help give confidence in kit building we have done all the work for you, removing the mistakes and protecting you from expensive errors.
Students will therefore benefit from receiving the exclusive Jemma Kidd Make Up School privilege card upon completion of their course. This card entitles students to some fantastic discount offers from sponsors. Discounts from 15% - 35% have been negotiated to make building a diverse and extensive kit more readily achievable. Within the professional industry a make-up artist kit would contain a variety of professional brands, and we would like our students to get the best possible selection of items.
The central London based studios are extremely well equipped with students accessing a range of high quality brands to use for their studies which include our own brand being used alongside brands such as MAC and Illamasqua, as well as all the tools, make-up and skincare brands such as La Roche Posay and Epicuren.
The one week certificate course provides a starter make-up kit to take away at the end of the course, while the full six week professional course gives a kit worth over £1,500.
