The aim of the course is to introduce a range of basic jewellery/metalworking techniques.The course provides you with a ‘hands on’ approach incorporating soldering, saw piercing and filing skills.Each of the skills taught and learnt will be put into practice and you will produce a finished piece reflective of your ability.It is advisable that students keep a technical notebook to record personal findings and samples. Please note that this course involves fine dexterity and intricate work. As you will be working in a workshop environment it is important that you dress appropriately.As part of the Health and Safety regulations you must ensure that you wear ‘closed toe’ shoes – no sandals.

What else do I need to know?

Basic equipment including hands tools are provided along with base metals (copper and brass etc) for samples/test pieces only. Base metals for finished pieces can be purchased from your tutor.

Precious metals (silver and gold) are purchased by the individual. You will be advised throughout the course of relevant suppliers for both metals and equipment.

Note: you are advised not to purchase any materials until course viability is confirmed.
