Description

After the licensing act of 2001 it was made statute law that all persons wishing to work as security officers, door supervisors, close protection officers & wheel clampers within the UK must be in possession of a valid SIA (Security Industry Authority) license. This can be achieved by completing a 2 stage process firstly you must choose a sector of employment:Security Guarding (A Security licence is required when manned guarding activity that does not fall under the descriptions of door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, or public space surveillance (CCTV) is undertaken. This applies only if your services are supplied for the purposes of or in connection with any contract to a consumer)Door Supervision (A Door Supervisor licence is required if manned guarding activities are undertaken in relation to licensed premises*, except where the activity only involves the use of CCTV equipment or falls within the definition of cash and valuables in transit or close protection. A Door Supervisor licence is required if you are performing this activity on behalf of yourself or your employer or your services are supplied for the purposes of or in connection with any contract to a consumer.)Once your chosen sector has been agreed you must attend a accredited course, this course must be delivered by an accredited centre as detailed by the SIA. When choosing your course please be aware that a door supervisors license also allows you to work in security guarding “this does not work the other way round” a security guarding licence does not allow you to work as a door supervisor.SECURITY GUARDING BTEC LEVEL 2 IN SECURITY OPERATIONS 30HRS £150 INC VAT PER CANDIDATEDOOR SUPERVISION BTEC LEVEL 2 IN DOOR SUPERVISION 30HRS £150 INC VAT PER CANDIDATEOnce you have attained the course qualification you must apply to the SIA for your license, the cost for your license will be (as of 2009) £245.00 this process takes up to 9 weeks, during this time you may not work in a security capacity.Upon receipt of your license you may work as a door supervisor or security officer at any venue within the UK.
