In this practical course, you will be shown where to find news, what makes the news and how to report it. After discovering the nuts and bolts of news reporting - including people to quote and what questions to ask, students will be shown how to write the story through a series of practical exercises.

Course programme
If you are a student who is thinking of taking up journalism at college or university, want to write for your school magazine or simply want to find out how to write, think and operate like a journalist, then this is the course for you.
Topics covered
An important element of the course is group work in the form of a magazine where the editor and reporters recognise, report and write up news, feature and vox pop stories within the CSM building.
You will come away with plenty of new-found skills including story structure, the shape of news, interviewing skills, good V bad taste in reporting, feature writing, vox pops, law and much more besides.
Students will have their writing and literacy assessed at every stage with written and verbal feedback and also have their progress measured
It is planned to include a visit to The Guardian newspaper which is located two minutes away.
Level: Beginners
Entry requirements: You must be between 16 and 18 years old in order to attend.
