Course programme
You will learn about all aspects of journalism from writing features for magazines, stories for newspapers and websites to TV and radio journalism.
The first year is about building skills in writing, design, photography, radio and TV broadcasting before you complete bigger projects in the second year.
These include documentary film making and planning, writing and designing the college student magazine. You will learn how to write sparkling, professional copy which would be useful in journalism and many other industries such as advertising, marketing and public relations or writing for websites for any company. Across the two years you will complete 19 units which are assessed through your coursework. This work will include the articles you write, photographs you take, pages you design, radio news bulletins you produce and films you create. The course is a great alternative to A levels if you prefer to be assessed by coursework and you can earn as many UCAS points on this course as with A levels. 5 GCSEs graded C or above or equivalent BTEC First Diploma at Merit plus English Language at C or above. This course prepares you either to go into higher education at university or to go directly into employment as the skills you learn will be useful to many employers. If you are aged 19 or over and considering enrolling on a further education course at Level 3 or above, you may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan to help with course fees.
