Course description, features and facilities What you’ll be studying

The structured program includes the nationally recognised core legal subjects (the 'Priestly 11' which include Torts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Property, Equity, Company Law, Administrative Law, Federal and State Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, Evidence and Ethics and Professional Responsibility). Students will also have the opportunity to pursue broaden their legal knowledge or pursue particular areas of interest via a range of option units.

The student cohort

The student cohort consists of mature minded postgraduate students who have successfully achieved an undergraduate degree – the domestic student entry requirements include a GPA 5.5+. International students are required to achieve an IELTS score of 7.5+ as well as a recognised undergraduate degree with a strong GPA to gain entry. Many of our Juris Doctor students have spent time in the workforce and are passionate about making a difference. The programme of study encourages students to engage in interesting and complex discussions and debates about the law and how it can influence change.

Students can also get involved with our award-winning law society - The Blackstone Society - which links students to high profile national mooting competitions sponsored by leading organisations such as Australian Red Cross, Clayton Utz, DLA Piper and Ashurst to name a few. UWA’s law society also provides opportunities for networking, social events, volunteering, clerkships, internships and more.
