The justice of the peace is a very important figure, since it allows you to assert your rights without going to a court. In particular, it is possible to appeal against fines and penalties, as long as the amount does not exceed 20 thousand euros, or to resolve minor disputes such as condominium disputes quickly and economically. Let's see in detail who is the justice of the peace, what are his competences and how to lodge an appeal. The justice of the peace is a professional qualified to carry out legal activities, able to deal with a series of civil and minor criminal cases. For example, as regards the limits of civil proceedings, they are determined on the basis of the value of the case, the sector of reference and the territoriality, with a maximum ceiling of 5 thousand euros for movable property. Conversely, however, the seriousness of the crime is taken into consideration in criminal actions. The justice of the peace is part of the judiciary, is interested in conciliatory actions and is present in all the Italian capitals. In addition, separate offices can be envisaged, to respond more efficiently to citizens' demand. The appointment of these honorary magistrates is carried out through a specific decree of the President of the Republic, with the support of the Superior Council of the Judiciary. To hold the position of justice of the peace it is necessary to comply with a series of requirements, resulting in fact a rather controlled profession with strict restrictions for its entry. First of all, it is essential to be an Italian citizen, to reside in the country and to be aged between 30 and 71 years.
