The knitter is a worker who works in specialized factories or shops, knits using traditional needles or modern machinery to make garments for sale. The beginning of knitting does not have a certain date due to the difficulty of distinguishing whether the news received concerned the knitting or the loom work. What is certain is that this topic, recently re-evaluated by in-depth studies, offers us reliable and documented information only when we stop at the second or third century after Christ because first history is too often confused with legend. The yarn used was that of wool or, for Egyptian finds, cotton. When, in more advanced times, silk was imported from the East, it became the type of yarn preferred by popes and kings. Very precious garments were made, often enriched with gold threads that joined the silk yarn.
