Who’s this course for? This course is designed primarily for applicants who wish to enhance their career prospects within the broad range of human services both internationally and in the UK. The course has a clear, practical and vocational character that aims to support your entry into the range of human services professions, or to help you develop and advance your existing career in the human services.

Skills and experience gained The course offers the opportunity to develop personal and professional skills in areas such as multi-agency working, equal opportunities, and working with diversity and difference. It also introduces key concepts and issues in human services work, such as evidence-based practice, anti-discriminatory practice and user involvement. There is a strong employability focus at all levels of the course, which enables students to combine study with human services work in various forms and settings. There is also research methodology training at each level to prepare you for undertaking an independent research project at level 6. In this way, graduates are well-equipped to take advantage of the many career opportunities that exist in direct work with service users and community development for example, as well as the opportunity to apply for social work training at Masters level. After the course The course is likely to appeal to those with existing interest and/or experience in an area of the human services and will enhance your understanding of this field of professional work. On completing this course students are likely to progress into the following areas: Direct work with service users in areas such as: Children and families, drug and alcohol misuse, prisoner rehabilitation, services for older and disabled people, young people, work in other areas of the human services such as: Housing, welfare-to-work, and community development.
