Course Description
Topics to be covered in this laboratory intensive course include the structure and function of biomolecules such as proteins, enzymes, carbohydrates, and DNA, as well as the structure and function of cellular components. In the laboratory, students will carry out several introductory and advanced experimental techniques utilizing both DNA and proteins. Experiments will include gel electrophoresis, bacterial transformation, and various applications of the polymerase chain reaction. In addition, protein purification, protein analysis including SDS-PAGE will be introduced.
Prerequisites: Completion of a high school biology course is required.
