Year 1

In this law unit, you will learn what is meant by land – and understand what is purchased in a land transaction. You will cover registered and unregistered land gaining an understanding of the difference between the two. You will also learn about the different ways in which land can be held and you will gain an understanding of legal interests and equitable rights. You will also learn about the complexities of joint ownership and about the rights and duties of trustees, as well as an understanding of restrictions and benefits that may come with land ownership and how these might be modified or discharged. Finally, you will gain an understanding of the nature of mortgages.

Additional information

This unit will be assessed by a 1½ hour examination (plus 15 minutes reading time). Results for these units are graded pass, merit, and distinction.
