What you will learn On successful completion of this short course you will be able to: Critically understand the properties (physical, chemical, and biological) commonly associated with Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and apply concepts and principles to perform calculations using waste properties Critically understand describe and appraise the process that control generation of landfill gas (LFG): understand the parameters contributing to LFG production and composition, the risks and production controls Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of why and how to control, collect and treat landfill gas: understand the main components of LFG management, appreciate factors controlling operation of the systems and identify potential benefits for LFG reuse Apply complex concepts and principles in order to design and manage a landfill site with reference to: Landfill Directive requirements, liners, performance.
