Language and literacy is one of the most vital skills you can give a student. Our two-year accelerated degree is designed for those looking for a three-year entry into teaching, either in the secondary or post-compulsory (further education) sectors when followed by a PGCE. We will encourage you to think critically about literacy and the English language. Together we will explore their fascinating historical and cultural contexts, as well as literary forms, linguistics and language acquisition. Our expert lecturers will introduce you to different modes of critical thinking and teach you how to employ these methods in literary study and beyond. Our degree will prepare you for employment in language and literacy education, as well as the creative industries. Following our accelerated degree, you be very well-placed to progress into a secondary or lifelong learning teacher training qualification, via a PGCE or the School Direct training initiative. We will provide the opportunity to contextualise subject knowledge in relation to practice via specific modules. You will have access to the expertise and knowledge from two faculties. The core subject knowledge is hosted and delivered by our Faculty of Architecture, Computing and Humanities at our beautiful Greenwich Campus. This is then blended together with our Faculty of Education and Health at the Avery Hill Campus. The aims of the programme are: To emphasise acquisition of theoretical, conceptual and empirical knowledge. To apply knowledge within a practical framework. To develop in students associated skills, and to promote transferable skills..
