Our BA Language and/with International Law with Foundation Year gives you the opportunity to combine the study of a modern foreign language with international law to a high level. You will also be able to study a number of cross-cultural modules exploring specific themes across a variety of language-speaking areas.
Not only will you attain a good level of competence in the language, but you will also have a chance to learn about the culture of the language-speaking area, choosing from a range of modules covering literature, film, history, visual culture and philosophy, among other fields.
The law component of the programme will equip you with the tools to understand the operation of law in the modern world and in particular the ways in which law is deployed to mark distinctions between the national/international and global. You will have a chance to gain a strong grounding in UK constitutional law, the English legal system and European Union law, public and private international law, migration law (including asylum), and human rights.
Before proceeding to the main degree, you will spend your Foundation Year preparing yourself for a degree in the arts by improving your study and research skills and gaining arts-related knowledge and understanding. You will also have the opportunity to take a language module as part of the Foundation Year.
Our part-time Foundation Year degrees allow you to spread out your Foundation Year studies over two years. As the 'Foundation Year' is made up of 120 credits, as a part-time student you can take 60 credits in each of your first and second years before starting the main four-year BA Language and/with International Law. This means that you can take six years to complete the part-time degree with Foundation Year.
