Offering you the opportunity to reach a high level of competence in a modern language, this BA Language and/with Politics with Foundation Year programme also allows you to acquire advanced knowledge of a range of cultural topics and to develop an understanding of the nature of politics and government in contemporary societies.

You will compare and contrast the institutions and practices of government in different societies and analyse different theories of politics and government. A number of cross-cultural modules will allow you to explore specific themes across a variety of language-speaking areas.

Before proceeding to the main degree, you will spend your Foundation Year preparing yourself for a degree in the arts by improving your study and research skills and gaining arts-related knowledge and understanding. You will also have the opportunity to take a language module as part of the Foundation Year.

About this course

Graduates can pursue careers in local and national government, policy work, research or education. This degree can also be useful in becoming a journalist, charity officer, diplomatic services operational officer or civil service fast-streamer.

We welcome applicants without traditional entry qualifications as we base decisions on our own assessment of qualifications, knowledge and previous work experience. We may waive formal entry requirements based on judgement of academic potential.

Upon successful completion of the Foundation Year, you can automatically progress on to our three-year, full-time, evening study BA Language and/with Politics.

COURSE STRUCTURE

For the Foundation Year, you undertake three core modules and choose one option module: either The Arts: Questioning the Contemporary World or a language module.

If you successfully complete these modules, you will automatically advance on to our three-year, full-time, evening study BA Language and/with Politics.
