This course is for those interested in trying to understand major events in the past, who are curious and willing to read widely to gain a depth of knowledgeWe believe the future of research lies in breaking down traditional barriers between academic disciplines so the bigger problems of the 21st century can be considered from human as well as physical perspectives. We have a number of interdisciplinary research themes, which fit closely with international research priorities.

Course programme

You will: Cover taught courses on: Unit 1 Breadth Study- Russia, 1917-91: from Lenin to Yeltsin Unit 2 Depth Study- Mao’s China, 1949-76 Unit 3 Breadth and depth- Protest, agitation and parliamentary reform in Britain, 1790-1918 Unit 3 Coursework- Cold War (suggested) You will be able to develop your own coursework title, based upon a defined chronological range. You can attend field trips in the UK and overseas (we currently run a trip to Berlin each year). You should be prepared to read widely and learn through research and discussion as well as in lectures.
