WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
OPEN LEARNING is a way of studying by a "non-traditional" method, where you can study at your own pace and fit in your learning with work and family commitments. It is ideal for anyone who is unable to attend classes on a regular basis. This course is perfect if you want to achieve an AS for further study, work or just out of interest

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
An understanding of the Law is useful in many areas of work, and will provide a sound foundation for a career as a solicitor or barrister. Knowing your rights will also help you learn how to protect yourself in a variety of situations. With this course you will cover many key aspects of English law and its practice. This course will help you:
  • learn about court structure, criminal law, tort and contract law and European Union law
  • gain and understanding of the way the law affects individuals, groups and institutions
  • understand the ways in which English law is created, administered and changed
  • evaluate the effectiveness of legal rules, institutions and procedures in the modern world
HOW WILL I LEARN?
This courses has been written by the tutor and comprises of a workbook.

You will need to purchase both of the following textbooks and a good law dictionary to accompany the workbook.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Mode of study - open/distance learning.

Study time- Each of the topics is self-contained and you will need to put in at least 5 hours of guided self study each week.

Duration - all AS Level subjects are studied over one academic year.

Start date - enrolment can take place anytime throughout the year but AS Level exams are set for June and January. It is therefore a good idea to enrol at the earliest opportunity to give you the maximum amount of time to complete the course.

Examination structure - This course will prepare you to sit the AS Units for the AQA specification 1161.

AS Unit 1: 1 hour 30 minutes; 50% of the total AS marks; availability: January and June
AS Unit 2: 1 hour 30 minutes; 50% of the total AS marks; availability: January and June
