LLB (Hons) Law

Course Overview
The LLB (Hons) is a full time course taught at UCBC and franchised from the University of Glamorgan. The overall aim of the programme is to provide a balanced and stimulating academic legal education together with an understanding of the essential practical skills such as debating, mooting and presentations which support employability.

This award is a qualifying degree for the purpose of the Law Society and Bar Council. Graduates may choose to continue their studies by taking either of the professional courses - Legal Practice Course for intending solicitors, or the Bar Vocational Course for intending barristers. At the end of the first year, students will have the option to remain on the LLB (Hons) award or follow one of our LLB (Hons) specialist pathways - Commercial Law or Criminal Law.

Students will be taught by a variety of methods, including interactive lectures, workshops and tutorials. The student experience is also enhanced by the supportive teaching environment, high staff to student ratio, international and national trips and guest speakers.

What will I study?
Students will normally study 120 credits in each year of the degree. The first year comprises of compulsory subjects. These modules are aimed at providing students with essential skills required for the study law. The second year will build upon these foundations and students will gain the confidence to engage in analytical and critical thought, which will continue into the final year.

In the third year, students can undertake a dissertation, which allows for detailed study of a legal issue of your own choice. It is also possible to study modules that will allow exemptions to the Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX).

The LLB (Hons) programme also offers pathways and allows you to specialise in your chosen area of Commercial Law and Criminal Law. A student who opts to attain a LLB (Hons) with one of these pathways will have to complete a minimum of six modules from the relevant group of options in their chosen pathway, which will include a dissertation.

* Students who wish to achieve a qualifying Law degree must successfully complete these modules in addition to those studied in Year One.
