As well as this programme offering the ability to obtain a qualifying law degree through the foundations of legal knowledge, this programme offers innovative and exciting challenges for the student to engage with and opens opportunities to enter a wide range of law-related employment.
Our LLB (Hons) course can be studied over three years on a full-time basis or four years part-time and it is the primary route which students follow if they are intending to enter the legal profession. The hallmark of the student experience on this award is the opportunity to experience a number of authentic learning experiences which reflect graduate level employment. For example, students will participate in presentations, meeting scenarios, case studies, interviewing, negotiation and also have the opportunity to practice advocacy. From the basic skills needed to construct a CV through to the opportunity to take part in mock trials and student conferences, a key feature of this course is the student-centred problem-based approach to learning and teaching.
All students follow the same modules and structure at Level 4 which primarily includes study of the foundations of legal knowledge. The key features of this course also include skills-focused modules at both Levels 4 and 5 which encourage reflection on work-related experiences and enhance employability skills. Equally, through our problem-based learning approach to teaching and learning, students are offered a supportive and guided environment to practice lawyering skills and to create awareness of rules that lawyers should apply in practice and the roles of lawyers in society.
In the second year, Level 5, students also have the chance to select a specialised option to introduce them to the types of issues they will be able to pursue in their final year via options. Options at Level 5 include Business Law and Commercial Awareness, Urban Criminological Concepts and Legal Principles. Please note, if cannot successfully...

The learning strategy for this course is based around problem-based and authentic learning experiences to enhance graduate skills for future employability and lifelong learning. Class contact will include a mixture of whole group and small group sessions, many taking place in a workshop setting to recreate problem-based and authentic learning scenarios and events. Students will be able to practice and develop oral and written communication skills, networking, conferencing and presentations, case-based scenarios as well as consideration of theoretical and critical perspectives to enhance knowledge and understanding.

The aim is to foster an academic community which promotes lifelong learning and is supported by research and practice informed teaching with learning strategies and technologies to support the student experience.
Learning will be organised into a series of small group sessions where students will be required to participate. Each session will be based around a problem or issue, and students will work towards a range of solutions by specifying objectives, identifying constraints, obtaining background information, applying both theory and practical skills to the subject matter and issue to be considered.
Large group sessions seek to establish an overview framework within which selected theories and principles of law can be more effectively developed. They will verify and consolidate knowledge and understanding and will engage in more detailed exposition of selected theories, rules and constraints.
The guided learning will incorporate a mixture of activities, some of which will require team work and online discussion. The learning will be facilitated by use of the virtual learning environment (VLE) platform and discussions/interactions between students and tutors.
Students will be expected to be familiar with contemporary issues within the relevant field of law and although there will be a framework of knowledge and understanding, students will be actively, rather than passively, engaged in the process of both learning about, and increasing understanding of, the subject matter.
