The Learning for Progression course has been created to assist students to develop the skills that are essential for successful academic study. Learning for Progression is structured to give you a general introduction into the world of further education, thus enabling you to choose realistic progression routes.

About this course

Students will be able to progress to a Level 3 programme within the college, primarily an Access to HE programme. Students who need more time to develop will be given the opportunity to study on the Adult Progression course either at Level 1 or at Level 2.

With the demands of this Level 2 programme and the expectations to progress onto Level 3, students need to be reliable, honest, and trustworthy, have a positive attitude, be committed, enthusiastic and self motivated for study.

Course programme

You will study four units (listed below). To successfully complete the course and progress, you must achieve all four units at a Level 2 and have 80% or above attendance:

  • Returning to adult learning
  • Introduction to essay writing
  • Plagiarism
  • Numeracy in context

The course is assessed by an essay, a presentation and a portfolio of work that includes in-class timed assessments.

Additional information

This course lasts 12 weeks (but is also offered on a 'fast track' basis which takes two weeks). It has four hours of study a week over one session (either Wednesday day or evening.) For more information please email
