The programme consists of a range of units, each allocated a credit value.
Students must achieve a minimum of 48 credits. This includes 8 credits from mandatory units: Health and Safety Practices in Vehicle Maintenance; Tools, Equipment, and Materials for Vehicle Maintenance. The remaining credits come from optional mechanical units. The Automotive Department has excellent workshops, classrooms and dedicated diagnostic facilities.
As part of your programme you will also complete Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT at the correct level for your programme.

About this course
You will attend full-time, three days per week for 36 weeks (less public holidays). Maximum attendance is required. You will be allocated a tutor who will provide support and guidance and give regular feedback on the progress you are making. You will need to supply overalls and safety boots for workshop sessions and pen, pencils and writing paper for classroom sessions.

Course programme
Vocationally related qualifications are nationally recognised and provide the essential knowledge to do a job. They are suitable for those: who choose a vocational route for their development; in full-time or part-time further education; seeking employment, who do not have access to a national vocational qualification; undertaking an Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship with a technical certificate requirement.
At the end of your first year, you will achieve a Level 1 Diploma in Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair. You will also be required to achieve a Level 1 qualification in Functional Skills, incorporating Communications, Application of numbers and ICT.
You will carry out assessed workshop tasks and classroom sessions to learn the underpinning knowledge, which will be assessed by written question papers, oral questioning, small assignments and on-line assessments with the IMIAL. To successfully achieve you must complete all units in the qualification, including all assessments (practical and theory), to a satisfactory level.
