The course is made up of 10 units which are:

•  Forensic Detection
•  Introduction to Security in the Public Services
•  Introduction to Expedition Skills
•  Personal Skills for the Public Services
•  Public Service Incidents
•  Practical Teamwork in the Public Services
•  Public Services: Assisting the Public

Compulsory residential activities to develop team work and practical skills are an integral part of the course. There is an additional cost to cover these trips and day trips, sports kits, travel costs associated with team games or residentials, and guest speakers. This charge is paid at enrolment and is non-refundable. The Learner Support Fund is available and could help assist in paying towards these fees.

The offer on the course is subject to the successful attendance of a Welcome Event and Taster Week.

Course programme

The course is designed for school leavers or adults who wish to take the first step in preparing for a career in the uniformed services e.g. Police, Ambulance, Fire, Armed Forces, Customs and Excise, Prison Service, Navy, Royal Marine Commandos.

This course may allow you to progress on to studying for Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Public Services or Sport.

As part of your course you may be accepted onto one of our sports development centres. Currently we have development centres in:

Football (Male – linked to CUFC and Female)
Basketball (Male and Female)

If selected for a development centre you will be given the opportunity for professional coaching in your chosen sport and entry into National and International tournaments on top of your studies.

You will need 2 GCSEs at grade 2 (E) or above and an interest in the Uniformed Services is essential and have a keen interest in your chosen subject area.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.

We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability at CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs.

Each project, activity or assignment that you complete will be assessed. These assessments indicate your level of performance and contribute to your final grade. Assessment will be through practical and theoretical work. You will be required to build a portfolio of assignment work throughout the course which will be externally assessed.

You will be required to take part in weekly physical activity. You will also be assessed on your physical fitness four times a year. You must be willing to take part in all practical activities and assessments.

During your time on the course you will have the chance to attend extra residential activities. There is an extra cost for these activities, that may include:
