The course is made up of the following units:
Module 1
• Investigating Roles and responsibilities at work Job Opportunities in Sport & Active Leisure
• How the body works
• Taking part in exercise and fitness
Module 2
• Working in Sport & Active Leisure, managing health and work
• Risks and Hazards in Sport & Active Leisure
• Planning own fitness programmes
Module 3
• Sport & Active Leisure Group project
• Physical activities for Children
• Leading a Sport & Active Leisure activity
In addition you will be taking the mandatory unit – Level 1 Award in Personal & Social Development.
Compulsory residential activities to develop team work and practical skills are an integral part of the course. There is an additional cost to cover these trips, day trips, sports kits, travel costs associated with team games or residential and guest speakers. This charge is paid at enrolment and is non-refundable. The Learner Support Fund is available and could help assist in paying towards these fees.

Course programme
This course may allow you to progress on to studying for Level 2 BTEC Certificate/Extended Certificate/Diploma in Sport Studies.
As part of your course you may be accepted onto one of our sports development centres. Currently we have development centres in:
Football (Male – linked to CUFC and Female)
Basketball (Male and Female)
Netball
Volleyball
If selected for a development centre you will be given the opportunity for professional coaching in your chosen sport and entry into National and International tournaments on top of your studies.
You will need 2 GCSEs at grade 2 (E) or above, general education and an active interest in the Sport & Active Leisure Industry. Also, good attendance and conduct record and completion of a fitness test.
In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.
We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability at CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs.
Each project, activity or assignment that you complete will be assessed. These assessments indicate your level of performance and contribute to your final grade. Assessment will be through practical and theoretical work. You will be required to build a portfolio of assignment work throughout the course which will be externally assessed.
You will be required to take part in weekly physical activity. You will also be assessed on your physical fitness four times a year. You must be willing to take part in all practical activities and assessments.

There may be a certification fee for these qualifications.
During your time on the course you will have the chance to attend extra residential activities. These may include:
