This is for anyone interested in Counselling and personal development. If you want to become a counsellor. The Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills, forms the foundation of professional counselling practice as well as providing the essential listening and communication skills used by helping professionals. It is the first compulsory qualification on our progression route to becoming a counsellor.
What qualifications or experience do I need ?Applicants should be aged 18 and over. No previous experience is required but you must have an interest in counselling and willingness to work both alone and with others in a group setting.
What will I study ?You will be required to attend college one session a week. The Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills is a 16-credit qualification consisting of 4 mandatory units. 1 Using Counselling Skills 2 Introduction to Counselling Skills Theories 3 Diversity and Ethics in the Use of Counselling Skills 4 Counselling Skills and Personal Development
How will I be assessed ?All units within this qualification are internally and externally assessed. To achieve a 'pass' a learner must have successfully passed all the assessment criteria as demonstrated in a portfolio. Please ensure you bring to your interview a handwritten personal statement of approx. 200 words about why you want to work in Health and Social Care
What qualifications could I achieve ?Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
How do I join the course ?Apply online or call and arrange an interview, alternatively you can come along to one of our Open Events. You will need to complete a literacy assessment with results showing at least level 1 literacy ability.
Will I need an interview ?Yes.
Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?Recommended text books and stationery. You may want to try your own counselling but there is no obligation. Recording equiptment e.g. Smart Phone or Tablet.
