The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in Physical Education and School Sport aims to provide learners with an introduction to a number of roles through an engagement with Physical Education and School Sport (PESS), including teaching, activity leadership and coaching for young people.
The qualification provides learners with guidance on further opportunities, including how to contribute to PESS programmes as a sports leader, coach and teaching assistant. While this qualification is delivered through the medium of PESS, the skills may be used by learners in working in other sporting environments, under appropriate guidance.

Course programme

There are nine units on this course. Learners will need to study at home as part of this course to gain the knowledge elements of the units as class contact time will focus on the application of this knowledge theoretically and practically. The home study will be supported by online resource materials and in class notes. There is also a large work experience element to this course to develop the coaching and leadership skills needed to work with young people in schools. All 9 units are mandatory to pass the qualification. 1 Understanding Key Legislation related to Physical Education and School Sport 2 Principles of teaching Physical Education and coaching School Sport 3 Principles of safe practice in Physical Education and School Sport 4 Principles of Child Development through movement 5 Promoting Lifelong Health and Well-being 6 Principles of inclusion in Physical Education and School Sport 7 Prepare for Physical Education and School Sport activities 8 Lead Physical Education and School Sport activities 9 Conclude and review Physical Education and School Sport activities The qualification provides learners with guidance on further opportunities, including how to contribute to PESS programmes as a sports leader, coach and teaching assistant. While this qualification is delivered through the medium of PESS, the skills may be used by learners in working in other sporting environments, under appropriate guidance. A minimum of 4 GCSE's at grade D including English and/or ideally Maths or equivalent (eg Level 1 Functional Skills). Or satisfactory completion of a Foundation Learning programme at Level 1 with a minimum of 37 credits. All applicants must have a genuine interest in working in sport, be prepared to participate in physical activities, work in a team, overcome personal challenges and have an enthusiastic approach to learning. All applicants must be willing to work flexibly with their placement in order to achieve their work experience hours On completion of the course, students can progress onto a level 3 programme as wither a full time course or apprenticeship including;
