The Level 2 Diploma in Performing & Production Arts is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to Level 3 study or employment in the performing arts.

8 mandatory units are delivered over one year. Units 1-7 are formatively assessed and Unit 8 summatively, to give the overall Pass/Merit/Distinction for the year. Assignments are set by your tutors and are internally assessed and subject to internal and external moderation.

Year 1 : Skills Building
• Broad experience for the acting profession; combat theatre, stage craft and professional practice.
• Practical and theoretical introduction to the traditions and skills of action, where learning to work as a member of a company in rehearsal, participating in the performance of shows is central to this Study Programme.
• Professional practice supported by guest speaker workshops, internal trips and visits.
• Work collaboratively with peers and industry professionals to present your work to showcase work to live audience.
• A critical/theoretical studies programme is taught throughout the programme and is continually reviewed via professional tutorials and online portfolios and blogs; with an emphasis on industry ready skills and self-promotion.
• The study programme has its own theatre in education acting company providing in-house performances.
• Great facilities. Dedicated and fully functional performance space with theatre lighting and sound system.
• Structured and self-directed project management and independent study around self-promotion based within dedicated Apple Mac PC Suites.
• Professional rehearsal etiquette, e.g. taking direction, working efficiently, preparation of lyrics and lines, vocational actor training (voice, movement, character work, practitioner styles work, contemporary theatre, classical theatre)
• Ability to devise plays.

Course programme

Employability skills and industry experience, e.g. team working, self-promotion, analysing health and safety issues for site specific work, project management, listening skills, adaptability and flexibility via live assignments, collaborative projects and entrepreneurial activity. Portfolio preparation for UCAS application and higher education interviews or Stage Schools.

This qualification helps you to progress on to UAL L3 Diploma/Extended Diploma Performing & Production Arts study programmes.

• Apprenticeships with the wider commercial/creative based industries and supported through Cambridge Regional College.
• Employment, e.g. theatre related work in the form of a creative assistant (front of house, box office) assistant director or paid performance work.

You should be at least 16 years of age. A minimum of 2 GCSEs at grades 9-3 (A* - D), or L1 Extended Certificate in Performing Arts, Media Music or Arts.

• To show at the Welcome Event an interest in the Performing Arts Industry and ideally a willingness to take part in a demonstration of your performance skills, although this is not a pre-requisite.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.

Course work Is continually assessed by a range of differential methods. Professional tutorial, self-assessment, peer review and panel reviews. A formative assessment is recorded at the end of each term. Summative assessment is applied to your final/self-initiated project proposal, this is graded as Pass, Merit, Distinction. The final project grade is the overall value of the qualification.

There is regular one to one tutorial provision.
