Level 2 Technical Certificate in Cutting & Styling

This qualification could lead to a job as a:

• Junior stylist or progression onto the L2 Technical Certificate in Colouring and Styling or apprenticeship programmes.

In addition to time spent in College you are expected to complete assignments and other work in your private study time either at home or in College. Work experience is an important aspect of your skills development and will require evening and weekend work in hair and make-up. You will be required to attend an evening session - the class will usually end by 7.30pm.

You will need 2 GCSEs at grade 3 (D ) or above, or successful completion of a full Level 1 hairdressing qualification.

A well-groomed and professional appearance is essential as you will be working with the public and need to present a professional image
Great importance is also placed on reliability, requiring regular attendance and punctuality
You will be advised of any materials you will need to purchase for your course when you attend the Welcome Event/Progression interview .

You will be invited to attend taster days in July, these are a compulsory part of your application.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.

The Technical Certificate is a City & Guilds qualification and is assessed by means of a final written exam & a trade test / synoptic assignment which take the form of a 6 hour practical session working on clients to create a pre-determined range of cuts & styles. This method of end testing is designed to test your ability to recall learning and apply it to a varied range of client scenarios and is closely linked to industry expectations and working practices, including working to commercially viable timings.

As with all our programmes, this course includes tutorial sessions and individual reviews, giving you individual time with your personal tutor. You may also be required to study and achieve further qualifications in English and Maths to assist in your personal development.

Work placement and employer engagement is a compulsory part of the qualification.
