Physical Education
AS/A2 Level - Two-year course
This is an ideal course for students who have an interest and ability in practical performance, coaching, officiating and the theoretical aspects of sport. It is a coherent and worthwhile course of study both for students who will not continue with further study of the subject beyond this qualification or as a preparation for Higher Education or employment in a sports-related field.

The focal points of the course are the performer and performance. The emphasis is on the interaction between the theory and practice of Physical Education and Sport. The course provides students with the opportunity to select from a very wide range of physical activities, encouraging students to engage in and promote a physically active lifestyle.

At AS and A2, students look at scientific and socio-cultural aspects of Sport and Physical Education and how this theoretical work is related to performance. The practical element is an integral part of both years and enables students to gain credit for their sporting, coaching and officiating skills.

Careers and Further Studies
The course provides an excellent foundation for candidates intending to pursue careers in teaching, coaching, sports development, the leisure industry, recreational management, the health and fitness industry and professional sport.

General Entry Requirements
Students will need the following:
  • An average GCSE points score of 4.7 calculated from your eight best GCSEs or equivalent vocational qualifications but must include GCSE Maths and English Language.
  • At least five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include GCSE English Language.
