This is predominantly a practical course delivered in our workshop. It includes all the underpinning knowledge of welding as a profession, as well as the Health & Safety requirements. Alongside the practical workshop sessions, you will be expected to do a small amount of reading and internet research to answer the assessment questions at the end of the course.
You will be required to complete a single Vee Butt Joint in the flat position, Lap Fillet Joint in the vertical up position, Tee Fillet Joint in the vertical up position, Single Vee Butt Joint in the vertical up position, Tube to Plate in the horizontal/vertical position and answer a number of Health & Safety questions.
You will need to bring PPE i.e. steel toe cap boots and flame-retardant overalls. These can be borrowed from our shared facilities or purchased directly from our stockroom.

Learning outcomes There are six learning outcomes to this award. The candidate will be able to produce or answer questions relating to: 1 Produce a butt weld from one side of a joint in the PC horizontal position 2 Produce a tee fillet weld on one side of a joint in the PD horizontal/overhead position 3 Produce a corner weld from one side of a joint in the PE overhead position 4 Produce a tee fillet weld on one side of a joint in the PE overhead position 5 Produce a butt weld from one side of a joint in the PE overhead position 6 Explain the health & safety and welding specific underpinning knowledge requirements for the process
The Level 3 Awards in Advanced Welding Skills are ideal if you've worked in welding for some time - you have plenty of experience. You want to develop your skills further so that you can undertake intricate welding work and quality control.
You will have to have completed a level 2 qualification before you will be accepted onto the Level 3 programme or have significant industrial experience.
You will gain a full City and Guilds Level 3 Award in your chosen discipline.
This is an intensive welding programme which begins and ends with practical training in the welding bay to ensure that you have enough experience to work effectively.
