Students who are accepted onto the programme without an A*-C grade in English or Maths will be required as a condition of the programme to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programmes. The pathway followed will be dependent on the grade achieved at GCSE, college diagnostic screening and the learners intended progression route. This is mainly an assessment based qualification where learners will complete approximately 4 internally set assignments per unit which are completed in accordance with strict guidelines and deadlines. Assessments are completed by the learner throughout the year and the resulting marks count towards their final qualification grade. The qualification can be awarded at Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*, depending on the consistency of quality in assessment completion.
Timetabled hours will in general be from 08.45 - 16.30 over 4 days per week, however these may change when offsite activities are taking place and there may be occasions when you will be required to stay overnight e.g. if completing a multi-day expedition. Applicants for this course need to be prepared to take an active role in a variety of outdoor and team activities as well as classroom based learning throughout the year. This is an academic qualification and has a significant amount of theoretical units therefore learners need to be self-disciplined, organised and prepared to study for approximately 8 hours a week outside of college time.
