Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering

Subjects Covered Core units • Health & Safety in the Engineering Workplace • Communications for Engineering Technicians • Mathematics for Engineering Technicians • Engineering Project • Electrical and Electronic Principles • Mechanical Principles and Applications Typical optional units could be chosen from the list below which is not prescriptive • Engineering Design • Properties and Applications of Engineering Materials • Engineering Drawing for Technicians • Computer Aided Drafting • Engineering Secondary & Finishing Processes (Machining) • Fabrication Processes • Computer Numerical Control of Machine Tools • Further Maths • Principles & Applications of Electronic Devices & Circuits • Electronic Measurement & Testing • Electronic Fault Finding • Welding Technology Assessment All units are internally assessed using a strict set of grading criteria and a summative unit grade awarded at pass, merit or distinction. Successful students will be awarded an overall triple grade e.g. DDD, DMM MMP based on points boundaries. Functional Skills Functional skills are practical skills in English, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Mathematics that allow individuals to work confidently, effectively and independently in life. The Programme Manager for each area will discuss the most appropriate Functional Skill for each student. On Completion On completion, students will leave the College with a broad portfolio of qualifications that will prepare them for employment at a technician level and an advanced Apprenticeship, or to Higher Education and a vocational Degree programme.
