Course Overview:
This course is suitable for candidates who work in children and young people’s services in the health and social care sector. This new qualification came into force from January 2011. It replaces the Level 3 NVQ in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People)

About this course

Entry Requirements:
Candidates must be 16 or over and already be working with children & young people from 0-19 years of age, within the health and social care sector.
Other age restrictions may apply when undertaking certain work activities within the childcare sector; these should be clarified with the appropriate regulator.

Course programme

Course Delivery:

To achieve the diploma the candidate has to gain a minimum of 58 credits
Each unit has a different number of credits attached to it and each credit = 10 hours study. The number of credits attached to each unit will dictate the number of units that each candidate will need to achieve in order to get the qualification.
This will consist of mandatory units on child development; communication; equality and inclusion; duty of care; personal development; safeguarding of children & young people; promoting positive relationships, wellbeing and resilience.
There is a wide choice of optional units to suit the specific job role of the candidate.
The course is delivered in the form of work-based assessment over 12-18 months. This will be assessed by an occupationally competent and suitably qualified assessor from the health & social care team.
Learners will have one to one tutorials with their assessor either in the workplace or the college (by appointment).
Each unit is divided into learning outcomes and assessment criteria. Learners are required to demonstrate knowledge and competence to their assessor through a variety of assessment methods. These may include observation in the workplace; evidence from an expert witness, oral and written questions; professional discussion with your assessor and completion of activity sheets.

Additional Information: The Faculty is represented by tutors who are all qualified in the Health & Social Care field and between them, cover all major health & social care fields, including mental health, substance misuse, acute and chronic nursing and elderly care. The team members are also qualified teachers who, between them, have over 100 years experience of teaching and training. The team currently work with a wide variety of organisations providing health and social care on both the public and private sector.
