This programme provides a variety of diverse and varied units, enabling students to have a well-informed understanding of the professional and technical areas and routes to employment within the construction industry. Students are expected to supplement college work with personal study at home. Entering onto this programme can enable progress to higher education or directly into trainee positions or apprenticeships within the professional and technical areas of construction.  The course will enable the students to explore:

•  The structure of the construction industry.  
•  How buildings are designed, estimated and constructed.
•  How health and safety and site welfare affect the construction industry.
•  How sustainability in the construction Industry is embedded with building technology.
•  The use of Science and mathematics in construction.
•  The use of CADD and graphical detailing to create structural designs.
•  A variety of project management methods and techniques.
•  Building regulation, property valuation and the conversion of structures.

In addition to the specialist skills described above, we will help you to develop a range of wider skills that will makes you into a well-round professional, who will be highly valued by employers and universities.  At CRC we call this package of skills the Passport to Success.  English, Maths and IT, Employability, Personal Learning, Social and Community skills, together with your Specialist skills and qualification will give you a distinct advantage when it is time for you to progress to employment or further and higher education.

Course programme

This course carries UCAS points which enables progression to University or Cambridge Regional College Higher Education Programmes. Level 4 Higher National Certificate, Foundation Degree (level 5), employment within the construction industry at trainee management level, including the higher apprenticeship framework (level 5) where further qualifications may be gained at level 5 whilst being employed .

You will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades 9 – 4 (A* - C), including English or Maths or have equivalent industry experience.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.
