Course programme



Course Overview

You can choose between a one and two year course. After having completed the one year course, which is equivalent to 1/1.5 A Levels, you can then progress on to the second year, which is equivalent to 3 A Levels.

This course is ideal for adults with an interest in developing skills in all areas of health, social work, nursing, care work, working with children, probation and public health.

The course covers topics such as:

  • Nutrition

  • Communication

  • Health, Safety and Social Care

  • Personal and professional development

  • Sociological and psychological perspectives in health and social care

If you complete year one successfully you can progress on to the second year which further develops your skills and knowledge, covering areas such as:

  • Safeguarding adults and promoting independence

  • Values and planning in social care

  • Public health and promoting health education

  • Dementia care and safe administration of medicines

You will benefit from a supportive in-class learning environment together with a comprehensive range of virtual learning resources.

This course will give you an opportunity to relate theory to practice across the sector through the completion of work placement.

There may be opportunities for adult students to study English and maths as part of your programme, and the level and type of qualification will be selected to suit individual need.
