This two year programme is designed to prepare you for a career in the sports industry. The course is an eighteen unit BTEC Extended Diploma (units are subject to change), which includes:
Module 1
• The Physiology of Fitness
• Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
• Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
• Current Issues in Sport
• Assessing Risk in sport
• Exercise, Health and Lifestyle
• Practical Team Sports
Module 2
• Sport Injuries
• Fitness Training and Programming
• Psychology for Sports Performance
• Sports Development
• Sports Coaching
• Practical Team Sports
All students will have the opportunity to choose one out of the following pathways in their second year:
• Science Pathway
• Coaching Pathway
• Fitness Pathway
Compulsory residential activities to develop team work and practical skills are an integral part of the course. There is an additional cost to cover these trips, day trips, sports kits, travel costs associated with team games or residentials and guest speakers. This charge is paid at enrolment and is non-refundable. The Learner Support Fund is available and could help assist in paying towards these fees.

Course programme
This programme is equivalent to three A Levels and will provide you with the learning opportunities and experiences required for a career in the broad sports-related industry. The Extended Diploma is also recognised as an entry qualification for Higher Education.
The course enables you to prepare for work or further study, and will provide you with the learning opportunities and experiences to enhance your understanding by learning in, learning about, and learning through sports activities.
As part of your course you may be accepted into one of our sports development centres. Currently we have development centres in:
Basketball (male and female)
Football (male - linked to CUFC - and female)
Netball
Volleyball
If selected for a development centre you will be given the opportunity for professional coaching in your chosen sport and entry into national and international tournaments on top of your studies.
You will need 4 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C) or above, including English or Maths.
OR
Successful completion of a full Level 2 qualification in a related subject.
Internal Applicants will need a BTEC NQF certificate. All internal targets set by tutor must be met
You will have an active interest in sport and will be anticipating a career related to sports.
In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.

Each project, activity or assignment that you complete will be assessed. These assessments indicate your level of performance and contribute to your final grade. Each unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Assessment will be through practical and theoretical assignments,
You will be required to take part in weekly physical activity. You will also be assessed on your physical fitness four times a year. You must be willing to take part in all practical activities and assessments. During your course you may have the chance to study the following additional qualifications available in our Academy:

There may be a certification fee for these qualifications.
During your time on the course you will have the chance to attend extra residential activities. These may include:
Football (girls and boys)
Tennis international tours
Ardeche Adventure (water sports in France)
Ski/snowboarding trip
There is an extra cost for these activities.
