Higher Level Teaching Assistants

The course recognises the skills developed by teaching assistants as they prepare to progress to the role of Higher Level Teaching Assistant and beyond. Developed by Gateway Qualifications with the support of the HLTA National Assessment Partnership (HNAP), it enhances the assessment process and provides successful learners with a nationally-recognised qualification as evidence of the skills they have gained. It will provide learners with the knowledge and understanding when analysing and addressing the different challenges that classroom assistants are likely to encounter. Learners will also understand working with individuals and with small groups as well as gaining essential insight into supporting pupils with special educational needs (SEN).

About this course

To achieve the Level 4 Certificate for Higher Level Teaching Assistants, learners must provide evidence against the four mandatory units:

– Teaching and Learning for Higher Level Teaching Assistants
– Planning learning and support for HLTAs
– Professional Practice for HLTAs
– Monitoring and Assessment for HLTAs
– You will have access to our virtual learning environment where you will be guided through the requirements and be able to upload evidence to your eportfolio.

While this qualification has been designed specifically for HLTAs, it is important to note that it is not a requirement for HLTA recognition in schools. It will however, provide successful learners with a nationally-recognised level 4 qualification.

Learners are required to be working within a school as a teaching assistant.

Focus Awards does not set any other entry requirements but training providers or colleges may have their own guidelines.
