About this course

Candidates should possess a minimum of NVQ level 3 in Electrical Installations, City & Guilds 2382 (17th Edition Wiring Regulations) and the City & Guilds 2391-10 (Inspection, Testing & Certification).

They must also have diverse site experience including industrial, commercial and domestic installation works, have access to the complete process for an electrical installation from design to completion and attend a technical interview.

Introduction

the qualification provides a strong foundation for career progression to senior technician status within the building services engineering sector. It could also form the first part (120 credits) of a related foundation degree programme and, as such, provide a possible first year exit or second year entry point qualification.

Candidates must undertake 12 units, 10 of which are mandatory with a choice for the remaining 2 optional units.

What books will I need?
BS 7671: 2008 Wiring regulations £75.00 and access to various reference materials.

Is there an exam?
For the majority of units, the candidate must compile a word processed report which will be discussed and assessed. Most units require a project based on an actual installation. For the Science for Electrical Installation unit, laboratory based exercises supported by reports, research and data sheets are required.

How long will the course take?
Two-year day release.
