This is a 2 year course, studied at 1 day per week.

This Level 4 course is a nationally recognised and highly respected qualification, accepted by employers, universities and professional engineering institutions. The course is aimed at working engineers and is ideal for anyone who is interested in developing a multi-disciplined career in electrical/electronic engineering. The College has close links with the Engineering Sector regionally and uses support from the industry to maintain currency of the curriculum offer. The College also has an excellent range of specialist laboratories, workshops and equipment providing access to resources that support learning.

All engineering courses at Cambridge Regional College focus on the practical applications of theory and include safe working practices, communication, team working and research skills.

U2 Engineering Maths (15 Credits) Level 4
U3 Engineering Science (15 Credits) Level 4
U4 Managing a professional Engineering Project (15 Credits) Level 4

Year 2:-
U19 Electrical and Electronic Principles (15 Credits) Level 4
U20 Digital Principles (15 Credits) Level 4
U22 Electronic Circuit and Devices (15 Credits) Level 4
U32 CAD for Maintenance Engineers (15 Credits) Level 4

Maths and English skills development will be embedded into all units of the study programme through investigations, reports, calculations and project work.

This is classed as a part-time course – on successful completion of this course, you will gain a BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma. You can achieve a BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma by studying a further 2 years on successful completion of the BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma. Home & EU students are eligible to apply for a part-time loan from Student Finance England.

Course programme

On successful completion of this course you will be awarded a BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. After completing this qualification students will normally continue in employment as a skilled engineer or progress on to Electrical and Electronic Engineering degrees or on to the BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma Electrical and Electronic Engineering at CRC.

To progress from the BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma to the BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma you will need to successfully complete your BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma. Progression to the BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma is conditional on group sizes being educationally and/or economically viable.

• 2 A levels at grade A* - E

or

• Pass at an equivalent level 3 qualification (e.g. BTEC L3 Diploma)
• Plus, English and Maths GCSE at grade 9 - 4 (A* - C) or a willingness to complete these.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a professional interview.

Assessment is by a variety of assessment methods, including case studies, observations or practical work, assignments, time constrained assessments and work base projects.

All outcomes of your programme are assessed and each unit will be graded as a pass, merit or distinction. A pass is awarded for the achievement of all outcomes against the specified assessments criteria. Merit and distinction grades are awarded for higher level achievement.
