Course Overview:
The City and Guilds Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice is suitable for Managers who have responsibilities for health and safety and wish to develop their skills further. The qualification is for candidates who wish to develop their skills and knowledge in managing health and safety for the workplace.
The ideal candidate will have an autonomous role in their organisation for managing health and safety policy and practice. They will report direct to or be part of the senior management team. They will recommend and implement changes relevant to their role. They will be aware of cost implications and budgetary control.
This course is well suited to NEBOSH Certificate holders who wish to gain a Level 5 qualification in health and safety by demonstrating their competence in the workplace, rather than taking further exams.

Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification; however we require a pre-course meeting with to discuss the course and to establish that this level is suitable for the candidate. Also, as this course uses performance on the job as the main basis for assessment, the pre-course meeting is used to check that the candidate can demonstrate the competence needed within their work role.

Course programme

Course Delivery:

There will be a total of 15 classroom-based sessions to meet the learning aims for each of the 10 mandatory units. Additional to this delegates will receive ongoing advice and guidance throughout the course of the programme from their assigned tutor. Including visits to their worplace if and when appropriate.

Mandatory Units
In order to gain the City and Guilds Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, delegates will need to complete all 10 Mandatory Units:

401 Develop and implement effective communication systems for health and safety
information;
501 Promote a positive health and safety culture;
502 Develop and maintain individual and organisational competence in health and safety matters;
503 Identify, assess and control health and safety risks;
504 Develop and implement proactive monitoring systems for health and safety;
505 Develop and implement reactive monitoring systems for health and safety;
506 Develop and implement health and safety emergency response systems and
procedures;
507 Develop and implement health and safety review systems;
508 Maintain knowledge of improvements to influence health and safety practice;
601 Develop and implement the health and safety policy.
