Course outline
This qualification aims to further the learning needs of those who have already acquired competence at Level 4 in British Sign Language (BSL), with Deaf people at an extended level. Learners successfully acquiring Level 6 BSL Studies must be able to demonstrate competence at this level of the UK Occupational Language Standards (CILT, 2010). This means that the learner will be able to understand and use complex BSL in a range of work and social situations.

• Maintain fluent and accurate BSL over extended periods within their area of expertise;

Don’t worry about the cost of learning! We can help and advise you. For 16-18 year-olds, your tuition will be free and you may be able to get discounted travel with Transport for London student travel cards. 19+: Adults on many courses are eligible for Government funding for some or all of the fee. Adults aged 19-23 are eligible for Government funding up to and including their first full level 3 qualification, and after that they may access an Advanced Learner Loan to cover tuition fees if the course is loan-fundable. Adults aged 24+ on a level 3+ course may take out an Advanced Learner Loan to cover tuition fees if the course is loan-fundable. If you do need to pay a fee, the College offers a number of ways to pay and can also advise you about financial support available to you. How do I enrol? You can enrol at certain times throughout the year by telephoning 020 7613 9116. Check our website www.hackney.ac.uk for details of when you can enrol by phone. Support for you Before you start your lessons, you’ll take part in induction sessions, where you’ll meet other students and find out all about the support that’s available to you. This includes learning about the Virtual Learning Environment, tutorials and the campus facilities.
