This is a practical course, but students will be expected to do further research at home. Students who show commitment will find the course stimulating and enjoyable. There will be visiting speakers and you will be invited to visit the local Deaf Club.

Course programme

British Sign Language, the language of the deaf community, has its own grammar and structure, quite different from English or any other spoken language. Students will learn a wide range of sign vocabulary and how to use these signs in conversation.


There is an exam at the end of the course.
