Course summary:
This one-year course leads to an AS level, which is a qualification in its own right. It can also be used as the first half (50%) of an A level qualification.
Course content:
All students study the following three modules:
- Module 1 - Molecules, Cells & Systems
- Module 2 - Making Use of Biology
- Module 4 - Centre Assessed Coursework
Course structure:
Advanced level biology has been designed to be accessible to a wide range of students. The course examines both fundamental concepts such as form & function, cell biology, evolution and genetics together with more modern applications such as genetic engineering and enzyme technology. A wide variety of teaching styles is employed including practical exercises, written assignments and critical discussion. It is anticipated that students from a wide variety of backgrounds will enjoy the insights provided into the activities of animals, plants and microbes.
Qualifications achieved:
GCE AS Level Biology, awarded by AQA.
Progression opportunities:
Successful students could progress to an A2 Level in Biology.
